The Skagit County Commissioners Sign Resolution to Take Pro-Active Approach On Critical Areas Involving Ongoing Agriculture And Salmon Recovery

The Skagit County Board of Commissioners signed a resolution that directs County departments to proactively pursue salmon recovery efforts while protecting the viability of agriculture. The resolution directs County departments to consider salmon recovery in all their actions, and pursue grant funds for salmon habitat enhancement. The Skagit River, which hosts all five species of Pacific salmon, is often called the “last, best hope” for salmon recovery in Puget Sound. Skagit County is doing its part to assist salmon recovery in the Skagit watershed, but it can do a lot more. Salmon recovery requires accomplishing three main objectives,

1) Ensuring cool, clean water

2) Removing barriers to fish passage

3) Restoring fish habitat
